Interventional pain management uses minimally invasive, image-guided procedures to diagnose and treat the specific source of pain. Unlike general pain management that relies primarily on medications, interventional approaches target the precise anatomical structure causing pain — whether it's a nerve, joint, disc, or other structure — and treat it directly.
While a referral is not always required, some insurance plans do require a referral from your primary care physician. We recommend checking with your insurance provider or calling our office at (706) 847-0826 — our team can help determine whether a referral is needed for your specific plan.
Please bring a valid photo ID, your insurance card, a list of all current medications (including dosages), any relevant imaging studies (X-rays, MRIs, CT scans — we can also request these from your referring provider), and medical records from any previous pain treatments.
Most interventional pain procedures take 15-45 minutes. More complex procedures like spinal cord stimulator implants or kyphoplasty may take 1-2 hours. Your physician will discuss the expected duration during your consultation.
Most procedures are performed with local anesthesia and, when appropriate, light sedation. You may feel pressure during the procedure but should not experience sharp pain. Our team monitors your comfort throughout every procedure.
