Stem Cell Therapy for Hip Pain

Stem cell therapy for hip pain offers patients with hip osteoarthritis, labral tears, and early avascular necrosis a regenerative alternative to hip replacement surgery. How It Works

Using fluoroscopic or ultrasound guidance, concentrated bone marrow aspirate containing mesenchymal stem cells and growth factors is injected directly into the hip joint capsule. The regenerative cells promote cartilage repair and reduce the inflammatory cascade driving joint destruction.

What to Expect

60-90 minute procedure. Performed under fluoroscopic guidance with local anesthesia. Walk out same day. Crutch use recommended for 3-5 days. Mild groin/hip soreness expected for 1-2 weeks.

Recovery

Limited weight-bearing with crutch assistance for 3-7 days. Return to daily activities at 2-4 weeks. Full activity at 6-12 weeks. Physical therapy optimizes results.

Duration of Relief

In the hip, how much improvement you get depends on how much joint space is left and whether there is any avascular change. We look at your imaging with you before recommending it.

Regulatory status. FDA approvals apply to specific products and conditions. For example, Ryoncil is approved for steroid-refractory acute graft-versus-host disease in children aged 2 months and older.[1] That approval does not cover the orthopedic treatments described here. A treatment that concentrates your own bone marrow or adipose tissue is not FDA-approved for hip conditions, and we will go through what that means for you, and what the alternatives are for your diagnosis.

Plan on crutches for three to five days afterwards. The 60-90 minute procedure is done under fluoroscopic guidance with local anesthesia and you walk out the same day, with mild groin and hip soreness expected for 1-2 weeks.
