Peripheral Nerve Stimulation
Peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) involves placing small electrodes near a specific peripheral nerve to deliver mild electrical impulses that modulate pain signals from that nerve. It can be used for chronic pain in specific areas of the body.

How It Works
A small electrode lead is placed adjacent to the targeted peripheral nerve using ultrasound or fluoroscopic guidance. The lead connects to an external or implantable pulse generator that delivers customizable electrical stimulation.
What to Expect
Minimally invasive outpatient procedure. Some systems offer a temporary trial period before permanent implant.
Recovery
Minimal recovery for the lead placement. Avoid excessive movement of the implant area for 2-4 weeks.
Duration of Relief
Varies by system. Some temporary systems provide a 60-day course of treatment and are then removed; others are implanted permanently.
