Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses a concentrated preparation of your own platelets to promote tissue healing, reduce inflammation, and stimulate regeneration in injured joints, tendons, ligaments, and muscles.
Conditions Treated
Knee osteoarthritis, rotator cuff tendinopathy, tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis), plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, chronic soft tissue injuries
How It Works
A small sample of your blood is drawn and placed in a centrifuge, which separates and concentrates the platelets and growth factors. This platelet-rich plasma is then injected directly into the injured or degenerated tissue under ultrasound guidance. The concentrated growth factors stimulate tissue repair and regeneration.
What to Expect
30-45 minute procedure including blood draw and preparation time. You may experience temporary increased soreness at the injection site for 3-7 days as the healing response activates.
Recovery
Avoid anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) for 2 weeks before and after treatment, as they can interfere with the healing response. Gradual return to activity over 2-6 weeks.
Duration of Relief
Results develop over 2-6 months as tissue healing occurs. Many patients experience lasting improvement. May be repeated for additional benefit.
