Does TRICARE cover pain management?
Yes. Interventional Pain Consultants accepts TRICARE for service members, retirees and their families, at our Georgia and Tennessee pain clinics.
Yes, we accept TRICARE
We accept TRICARE at every one of our clinics — service members, retirees and family members. If your pain traces back to training injuries, load-bearing work or long deployments, that is the kind of chronic pain we treat, and TRICARE covers it when it is medically necessary.
TRICARE comes in several forms — Prime, Select, TRICARE For Life alongside Medicare — and the rules differ between them. Whichever card you carry, we verify your specific plan before your first visit.
What TRICARE typically covers for pain care
Most TRICARE coverage includes interventional pain management when it is medically necessary — the evaluations, image-guided injections and nerve procedures that make up our core work. That typically includes care such as epidural steroid injections, medial branch blocks, radiofrequency ablation and spinal cord stimulation for conditions like back pain, neck pain, sciatica and arthritis. Prime, Select and TRICARE For Life each apply the rules differently, so we confirm your specific plan before your first visit.
Referrals and prior authorization
TRICARE Prime usually routes specialty care through your primary care manager, so a referral is typically needed before a first visit. TRICARE Select generally lets you book directly with network providers. Either way, procedures may need an authorization on file — we check what your plan requires during verification and help get it moving.
What you can expect to pay
What you pay depends on which TRICARE you carry — Prime, Select and For Life each split costs their own way. That is what our verification covers — when we confirm your benefits we tell you what your plan pays and what you can expect to owe, in plain numbers, before you are seen.
How we verify your TRICARE benefits
Request verification with your name and phone number, have your TRICARE card handy, and our insurance team will confirm your coverage directly with your plan and call you back before your first visit.
Where you can be seen
Once your coverage is verified, you can be seen at our Georgia clinics in Dalton and Ringgold, or at Cleveland, Farragut and Oak Ridge. Procedures that are better done in a dedicated surgical setting may be scheduled at our ambulatory surgery centers in Dalton or Cleveland — your care team will tell you if that applies to you.
Common TRICARE questions
I have TRICARE Prime. Can I book directly?
Prime usually wants a referral from your primary care manager first. Call us or request verification and we will tell you exactly what your plan needs on file before your visit.
I have TRICARE For Life with Medicare. How does that work?
TRICARE For Life pays after Medicare, and we accept both — bring both cards. See our Medicare coverage guide for how the Medicare side works.
Does TRICARE cover injections and nerve procedures?
TRICARE covers medically necessary interventional care under its own criteria — radiofrequency ablation and epidural injections included. We confirm how the criteria apply to you during verification.
Do you treat old service injuries?
Chronic pain from old injuries is exactly what an interventional pain practice is for — see back pain, joint pain and neuropathy for how we approach the most common ones.
