Does Cigna Medicare Advantage cover pain management?
Yes. Cigna Medicare Advantage is its own entry on our accepted list. Advantage plans change year to year, so we verify the exact plan on your card — copays, referrals, authorizations — before your first visit.
Yes, we accept Cigna Medicare Advantage
Cigna Medicare Advantage is its own entry on our accepted list, separate from the Cigna employer and marketplace plans covered on our Georgia and Tennessee pages. If a Cigna card replaced your Original Medicare card, you are on the right page.
We verify the exact plan on your card — Advantage plans differ from each other, and this year's plan can differ from last year's even under the same name.
What Cigna Medicare Advantage typically covers for pain care
Advantage coverage includes what Original Medicare covers, and that includes the work we do every day: evaluations, facet joint injections and the other image-guided procedures, up through spinal cord stimulation — for conditions such as spinal stenosis and radiculopathy. Your plan's criteria, referral rules and authorizations apply on top.
Your Cigna plan's rules are the ones that apply
A Cigna Advantage plan takes the place of Original Medicare rather than adding to it. Your copays, your referral requirement and any prior authorization all come from the Cigna plan's own rules.
Prior authorization
Most Advantage plans ask for prior authorization on interventional procedures — the implanted and radiofrequency treatments most of all. We learn during verification whether your Cigna plan does, then submit the request to the plan ourselves.
What you can expect to pay
Each Cigna Advantage plan carries its own copay schedule, and the spread between Cigna plans can be as wide as the spread between carriers. When we confirm your benefits you get the numbers — what the plan pays and what you would owe — before your first visit.
How we verify your Cigna Medicare Advantage benefits
Request verification with your name and phone number, have your Cigna card handy, and our insurance team will confirm your coverage directly with your plan and call you back before your first visit.
Where you can be seen
Once your coverage is verified, you can be seen at our Georgia clinics in Dalton and Ringgold, or at Cleveland, Farragut and Oak Ridge. Procedures that are better done in a dedicated surgical setting may be scheduled at our ambulatory surgery centers in Dalton or Cleveland — your care team will tell you if that applies to you.
Common Cigna Medicare Advantage questions
My Cigna Advantage plan is new this year. Do you still take it?
Bring the card — Cigna Medicare Advantage is on our accepted list as its own entry, and we verify the current plan.
Does Cigna Medicare Advantage require referrals?
Some plans do, some do not — it is a plan-level rule, not a Cigna-wide one. We check yours during verification so nothing surprises you at the front desk.
Is prior authorization going to delay my procedure?
Most Advantage plans require it for interventional procedures, and our team handles the request with your plan directly — finding out early is the point of verifying before your first visit.
What if my plan says no?
If a plan declines authorization, your care team talks through the options with you — including appeal through the plan's own process and alternative treatments your plan does cover.
