A trigger point is a tight, tender band of muscle that keeps firing — felt locally, or as pain referred somewhere else entirely. Soft-tissue pain of this kind is common after injury and alongside spine problems.
Trigger point injections release the band with a small amount of anesthetic; dry needling does the same work mechanically. Botulinum toxin (Botox) injections address muscle that stays in spasm, and a piriformis injection targets the deep buttock muscle that can irritate the sciatic nerve.
